10 Days of Street Photography in Japan

Visiting Japan has been on my wish list since I was 10 years old, and it certainly did not disappoint. As a bonus, I got to experience this fascinating country with my incredible wife and fellow street photographer Corina.

After spending our first 5 days in the capital Tokyo, we took the legendary Bullet Train to the old capital of Kyoto. We then wrapped up our trip with 3 days in Osaka. The contrast between Tokyo and Osaka was especially interesting.

For any street photographers visiting Japan, I highly recommend checking out Nara Park (easily accessible from Kyoto or Osaka) which turned out to be a surprisingly fun playground for street. This is where all the photos with deer were taken (in case you were curious). Go early, ie 7/8 am, because later in the morning, the deer are full and rest, and the tourists arrive in force.

Japan really is a unique experience, where the old mixes with the new, and a fun playground for street photography. This was also an opportunity to do some scouting for my Japan workshop in March 2025.
