Street Photography Festivals
Your Ultimate Guide to Street Photography Festivals Worldwide
I’ve attended several street photography festivals over the years, and each one has been an incredibly rewarding, inspiring and fun experience.
Attending these festivals is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of street photography and connect & hang out with like-minded people.
The festivals typically encompass a range of activities, including exhibitions, workshops, photo walks, lectures, and portfolio reviews. So there’s plenty of opportunity for inspiration and a chance to socialise with a great community.

The time I got to hang out with the street photography legends, Matt Stuart and Forrest Walker, at the Italian Street Photography Festival. Fun and super nice guys.

Street Photography Festival FAQs
What is a street photography festival?
It’s an event that brings together photographers of all levels to celebrate and explore street photography. These festivals usually feature a mix of exhibitions, talks, workshops, portfolio reviews, and photo walks. They’re a great place to learn, connect, and get inspired.
What should I bring with me?
Definitely your camera (whatever you’re comfortable shooting with). A few extra batteries and memory cards won’t hurt either. Comfortable shoes are a must for photo walks, and it’s handy to have a notebook or phone to jot down tips and ideas. If you’re planning to do a portfolio review, bring some printed work or have it ready on a tablet.
Can I submit my work to be part of the festival?
Yes, most festivals hold open calls for submissions or competitions before the event. If selected, your work could be exhibited or featured during the festival. Just keep an eye out for deadlines—they tend to fill up fast.
Are they good for networking?
Definitely. It’s one of the best reasons to go. You’ll meet fellow photographers, educators, curators, and sometimes even editors. It’s a great chance to make connections, get feedback, and share ideas.
Will I have a chance to shoot during the festival?
Yes! Many festivals organise photo walks, street challenges, or informal outings where you can get out and shoot with others. It’s a fun and low-pressure way to practice and try out what you’re learning.
Do I have to be a professional photographer to go?
Not at all. These festivals are open to everyone, whether you’re just starting out, a hobbyist, or a working photographer. The atmosphere is usually very welcoming, and there’s something for everyone.
Are street photography festivals free to attend?
Some parts are, like public exhibitions or talks, but workshops and special events usually require tickets or registration. Each festival is a bit different, so it’s best to check their website ahead of time.
What kind of things will I learn?
Expect to come away with a mix of inspiration and practical knowledge. You’ll hear from experienced photographers about their work, process, and challenges. There are often sessions focused on technique, storytelling, editing, and more.
How do I pick which festival to attend?
Think about what you’re looking for. Some festivals are more international and large-scale, while others have a local, community-driven feel. Budget and travel are also factors. Have a look at the festival’s previous lineups to get a sense of its vibe and focus.
How do street photography festivals make money?
While it does vary from one festival to another, most earn money through a combination of Competition Submissions, Sponsorships and Brand partnerships. Paid workshops, talks and 1-2-1 portfolio reviews are also sometimes on offer.
