A 6-Day immersive Street Photography workshop in Hanoi, Vietnam
Key Workshop Details
Dates: Tuesday 6th – Sunday 11th April 2027
Price: £1600
Location: Hanoi, Vietnam
6 Attendees Only

Several years ago, Hanoi was home to the first weeklong workshop I ran with Street with Matt, and for good reason.
Hanoi is a visual playground for street photography and a wonderful city to get lost in. A few favourites from last time include:
- Early morning activities around the lakes (aerobics, badminton, gym workouts and even Latin & Ballroom dancing).
- Relaxing street party vibes around Hoan Kiem Lake when the roads are closed to traffic on the weekend.
- Pavements being used for everything except their intended purpose
- Sprawling night markets to bustling traditional morning markets.
While Hanoi is a bustling capital city, there is a calmness to the chaos, the kind that I have yet to witness elsewhere. This is perfect for getting into the right mindset for street photography, without feeling overwhelmed.
The people are warm, friendly, genuine and welcoming. On our last trip there, while out and about with my camera, I was invited to join a pre-wedding party on the streets and a morning Latin & ballroom dancing class taking place by the lake. There is a deep sense of community and pride in their heritage that makes Hanoi special.
What to Expect from this Workshop?
This workshop won’t be a relaxing holiday in the sun. The days will be long, and you will be pushed. However, the payout both in terms of your photography development and the depth of the experience you have, will be huge. That I can promise.
During this workshop, you can expect a mix of theory, covering practical tips and approaches, and plenty of shooting as I introduce you to the best locations in this unique and character-rich city for street photography. You will have daily opportunities to photograph with me 1-2-1 and receive feedback on your photos. You will leave with a selection of your top 10 images from the workshop.
With an intimate group size of 6 participants, you will get to connect with people with the same passions and values as you. The only skill-level requirement is that you feel comfortable with the camera you will be using.
April is one of the best times of year to visit Hanoi, with the climate being a warm 20-26 C and low rainfall.
While exploring the amazing range of locations in Hanoi, you can also expect to sample Vietnamese coffee, the world-famous roadside pho, delectable banh mi, one-of-a-kind delicious Vietnamese sandwiches and many more mouth-watering treats.
As usual, I will be inviting a local photographer to share a presentation on their work, and spend one of the days shooting with us. Offering you a more local perspective.
Recognising that we are guests in a country where many don’t experience the same opportunities we do, 10% of the money I make from this workshop will go to a charity supporting local communities. The specific charity I choose will be announced during the workshop.

Hanoi Photography Workshop FAQs
What is included in the price?
The education, daily 1-2-1s, planned itinerary, pre-workshop Zoom planning call and Matt as your guide and mentor are included in the price. You will be responsible for all your own expenses (travel, accommodation, meals etc), which are not included in the workshop price.
Where will we stay during the workshop?
Once you book onto the workshop, I will provide the address of the recommended hotel for this workshop. Appreciating that people have different preferences and budgets when it comes to accommodation, you are welcome to book elsewhere if you wish. There are plenty of options on Booking.com or Airbnb nearby.
What gear do you recommend for street photography?
When it comes to gear with street photography, less is generally more. So I always recommend one body and one prime lens. It’s also good to have a relatively wide lens. Personally, I always shoot with a 35mm or 28mm prime lens (full frame). The quality of the lens or camera isn’t important as long as you are comfortable using it.
What skill level is required for these photography workshop?
If you’ve ever been interested in trying street photography or are a seasoned street photographer looking to up your game or reignite your passion, my workshops are suitable for all levels.
With only 6 attendees per workshop, you will receive a significant amount of 1-2-1 time with me. This allows me to give tailored guidance based on your specific goals.
The only skill requirement for attending is that you are comfortable using the camera you have.
How many people will be on the workshop?
All my workshops are limited to 6 attendees. The smaller number creates a nicer group dynamic over the 6 days, and allows us to blend in more with our environment. It also allows me to target the content more towards your ability and interests, especially during the 1-2-1s.
How long are the days?
It will be an intensive 6 days, often starting early and finishing late. So it’s best not to make any other plans during this time. We will meet at 9am on the first day (starting with theory in a classroom setting) and finish at 5pm on the final day. Most of the days are 9-10 hours in length, with some early starts.
