I am very excited to be taking my 3-Day Street Photography workshop to Istanbul, Turkey

Key Workshop Details

Dates: Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd May 2026

Price: £550

Location: Istanbul, Turkey

6 Attendees Only [1 PLACE LEFT]

I first visited this city back in my early twenties on an interrailing trip (is that still a thing people do?). Driving through the streets and dodging traffic in a rental car left a mark that’s never really faded. Since then, I’ve passed through the city a few times as a transfer hub, staring down from the plane window at the ferries, the ancient skyline and that irresistible chaos below.

Istanbul is a street photography playground. It’s a journey through rich history and culture, diverse neighbourhoods, and a unique blend of modern and ancient life. The city’s social and friendly nature makes it a welcoming experience, easy to capture genuine moments and the constant activity on streets, bridges, alleys and ferries provides endless photo opportunities.

The most worn book on my shelf is Alex Webb’s Istanbul: City of a Hundred Names.

Wait a second...the photos on this page don’t look like they were taken in Istanbul.

Good eye.

This workshop is going to be a little different. For the first time, I’ll be leading a workshop in a city I haven’t photographed before. My first trip to Istanbul was a few years before I picked up a camera, and honestly, I can’t wait any longer to go back, this time with one in hand.

Through conversations with locals and photographer friends who’ve spent time there, I’ve built out a detailed plan. I’ll be arriving a couple of days early to test every location and eating spot (the sacrifices I make for you all) so you’ll get the same level of experience you’ve come to expect from any of my workshops.

What to Expect from this Workshop?

This workshop won’t be a relaxing holiday in the sun. The days will be long, and you will be pushed. However, the payout both in terms of your photography development and the depth of the experience you have, will be huge. That I can promise.

During this workshop, you can expect a mix of theory, covering practical tips and approaches, and plenty of shooting as I introduce you to the best locations in this unique and character-rich city for street photography. You will have daily opportunities to photograph with me 1-2-1 and receive feedback on your photos. You will leave with a selection of your top 10 images from the workshop.

With an intimate group size of 6 participants, you will get to connect with people with the same passions and values as you. The only skill-level requirement is that you feel comfortable with the camera you will be using.

Istanbul Photography Workshop FAQs

What is included in the price?

The education, daily 1-2-1s, planned itinerary, pre-workshop Zoom planning call and Matt as your guide and mentor are included in the price. You will be responsible for all your own expenses (travel, accommodation, meals etc).

Where will we stay during the workshop?

Once you book onto the workshop, I will provide the address of the recommended hotel for this workshop and where I will be staying. Appreciating that people have different preferences and budgets when it comes to accommodation, you are welcome to book elsewhere if you wish. There are plenty of options on Booking.com or Airbnb nearby.

What gear do you recommend for street photography?

When it comes to gear with street photography, less is generally more. So I always recommend one body and one prime lens. It’s also good to have a relatively wide lens. Personally, I always shoot with a 35mm or 28mm prime lens (full frame). The quality of the lens or camera isn’t important as long as you are comfortable using it.

What skill level is required for these photography workshop?

If you’ve ever been interested in trying street photography or are a seasoned street photographer looking to up your game or reignite your passion, my workshops are suitable for all levels.

With only 6 attendees per workshop, you will receive a significant amount of 1-2-1 time with me. This allows me to give tailored guidance based on your specific goals.

The only skill requirement for attending is that you are comfortable using the camera you have.

How many people will be on the workshop?

All my workshops are limited to 6 attendees. The smaller number creates a nicer group dynamic over the 3 days, and allows us to blend in more with our environment. It also allows me to target the content more towards your ability and interests, especially during the 1-2-1s.

How long are the days?

It will be an intensive 3 days, often starting early and finishing late. So it’s best not to make any other plans during this time. We will meet at 9am on the first day (starting with theory in a classroom setting) and finish at 5pm on the final day. Most of the days are 9-10 hours in length.
